Search is the new desktop

Well officially that is.

Bing signalled the change by putting pictures on the background of their search page.

Google has also followed step last week (announcement here).

To us, what this signals is finally enough usage of the search engine as a homepage that both Google & Microsoft have decided that they need to allow users to customise it.

What does this mean for brands?

It just strengthens the fact that you need to own and defend your search terms – what happens when I search for your brand? What kind of conversations from Twitter show up?
