Google Alerts for Business Development
March 11, 2010 by Ben Young
Google Alerts is (yet another) free Google Service. It allows anyone to enter a keyword (or phrase) and get a notification via email (or RSS Feed) as soon as that term is used on a blog or News Source.
We run these all the time to monitor our own brands but also clients. It allows us to keep on top of what’s happening out there in the marketplace but to also respond in a timely manner.
However instead of utilising it for your own brand you can also use it to monitor your competitors but also to monitor marketplace changes.
What we suggest doing is entering a search for customers pain points, ie Congestion or Fuel Prices or Leaky Home. You can then gather relevant news sources on people experiencing the problem and then get in contact.
To figure out what keywords to use, visit news.google.com, enter some and see what kind of results come up, keep tweaking till you get the kind of opportunities.
Set it up once and watch the opportunities come in the door.
